I don’t really have anything interesting to say about the events of the past couple of days, but all I know is Tr*mp has never read a book in his life, probably not even his own, and that’s why we must continue doing it. This is a collection of books I think go against his entire ethos, and so you could say reading them is an act of rebellion in itself. Or whatever you need to get through the next four years.
Character Limit by Kate Conger and Ryan Mac is the full story of how Elon Musk, known anti-semite, hair plug receiver, and profiter off apartheid, destroyed one of the social media apps a lot of us really really liked. This is an example of a rage-fueler, if that’s what you need.
Obviously the orange cheeto has never been to therapy in his life so he wouldn’t know he’s a textbook malignant overt narcissist. Read It’s Not You: Identifying and Healing from Narcissistic People by Ramani Durvasula so you can arm yourself against them in your everyday life and maybe heal a little bit in advance from the damage he’s already inflicting upon our country.
It goes without saying that bronzer bozo would hate a book about how racism is at the core of policymaking and politics, so that’s why it’s even more important for us to understand how this has happened. Good thing we have The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee.
Politely, fuck the MAHA clowns out there and everything they stand for. Under The Skin by Linda Villarosa dives into the deep-seated racism in the healthcare system in America, which is something it would be useful for RFK to understand, obviously.
The Art of Doing Science and Engineering: Learning to Learn by Richard Hamming sounds like one of the coolest books out there. This is a TEXTBOOK big brain book. It’s a book about THINKING and how to train yourself to think in ways that allow you to conceive and execute big ideas!!!! I mean come ON, one sentence of this book would melt little carrot face’s brain!!!
Remember the taco bowl he ate on Cinco de Mayo? That man looks like one of the unhealthiest people, and not only does he not care about what he’s eating, he certainly doesn’t care about where his food come from. Between Two Waters by Pam Brunton interrogates sustainability in food culture, assessing how capitalism, colonialism, gender and personal histories influence what we eat. BONUS: the author is Scottish and does much of her research in Scotland, and you know Trump is scared of people born outside the United States.
Something we can do during his reign of terror is form stronger community bonds and help those around us as much as possible. Enter: The Empathy Exams by Leslie Jamison, a collection of essays about how we understand each other, how we should care for each other, and how we can feel each other’s pain.
Colonialism, Western exploitation, the origins of racism and climate change—it all comes to head in the Caribbean, according to Tao Leigh Goffe in Dark Laboratory: On Columbus, The Caribbean, and the Origins of the Climate Crisis. Cheeto in chief cannot even begin to comprehend these ideas.
I know a lot of the language I used around tr*mp is humorous, obviously the situation is dire for a lot of marginalized people at this very moment and I’m not taking that lightly, but humorous takes on books are all I can offer :’).
